È attivo soprattutto negli anni Sessanta del XX secolo, quando intraprende una fruttuosa collaborazione con Vittorio Bonacina. La produzione di Giovanni Travasa è caratterizzata da forme organiche, linee curve e materiali naturali come il cuoio, il giunco, il vimini e il bamboo. Tra i suoi design più iconici possiamo ricordare le poltrone progettate per Bonacina Eureka del 1958, Eva del 1965, Palla del 1966 e Foglia del 1968.
